Boy meets Girl

Two people meet
In a pub, boy and girl.
One week later,
Both in a whirl
Of happiness following actions.
But confusion is caused.
To make things feel easier,
Drinks are poured,
And wrong things are said
To lessen the blow
Of parting,
And Juliet’s “sweet sorrow”.

Virtues once recognised
Are suddenly not found;
Doubts creep in;
Insecurity crowned
As the ruler of our heads.
Hearts take second place,
Love takes a back seat.
Why then the rat race
To settle happily in life
And find ‘the right one’?
Your head or your heart,
Which has won?

Time passes slowly,
Alone, life goes on.
Another missed opportunity -
This was supposed to be fun.
