Unforgettable

You are within my reach
But still so far away
I stretch out my arms
Yet my eyes begin to stray
From the choice I made
So long ago on that day
When a new era began
And I resolved to stay
Away from men like you
Who still need to play

I might change my mind
With one word from you
Break my resolution
My year would start anew
Perhaps this time no tragedy
No obstacle to block my view
And leave me with sadness
But instead a rosy hue
A good morning feeling
If you could be true

If you would change
You could take the place
Of everything in my life
Instead you are the face
Which haunts my dreams
Day and night you grace
My thoughts and cause confusion
I cannot begin to chase
You from my mind and
Wipe out every last trace

In memoriam

Memories are so painful now
Because they’re all I possess;
But one day they’ll be a comfort
And ease the loneliness.

You, the greatest lover of life,
Why did you have to leave?
All those friends you’ve left behind
Can only weep and grieve.

Death always seems so strange
To the living, but at 23,
Why you of all people
Leaving us so silently?

You were a loyal, supportive friend
To everyone you met.
Why go before we had the time
To repay you that debt?

You deserved so much more,
You never wanted to die.
So many things unexplained
We can only ask ‘why?’

Boy meets Girl

Two people meet
In a pub, boy and girl.
One week later,
Both in a whirl
Of happiness following actions.
But confusion is caused.
To make things feel easier,
Drinks are poured,
And wrong things are said
To lessen the blow
Of parting,
And Juliet’s “sweet sorrow”.

Virtues once recognised
Are suddenly not found;
Doubts creep in;
Insecurity crowned
As the ruler of our heads.
Hearts take second place,
Love takes a back seat.
Why then the rat race
To settle happily in life
And find ‘the right one’?
Your head or your heart,
Which has won?

Time passes slowly,
Alone, life goes on.
Another missed opportunity -
This was supposed to be fun.
